| About the Photographer |
| I have been using cameras for various pursuits
for almost 20 years, starting in early high school for my art
requirement, and continuing as I traveled to some pretty amazing parts
of the world. Most of my early travel was done via bicycle, which
provided not just a vehicle to cover territory, but also turned out to
be a unique way to meet people in whatever part of the world I was in.
This intimate interaction really encouraged me to continue with the
traveling and the photography. Over the years, as I explored photography as less of a journalistic or documentary pursuit, and a more personal expression, I have been drawn to finding details and dynamic images of everyday objects. In particular, I found a fascination for abstract renderings of flowers and the sensuality they can embody. Recently, I have begun rock climbing and mountaineering... and I bring my camera whenever it doesn't pose a significant risk. Alpine climbing has been a thrilling fusion of the outdoors and the story of people pushing themselves and their limits. Photography in this setting has been a true challenge, as my focus always has to be on safety first and foremost, with capturing images as a second priority. None the less, it has been extremely compelling. Over time, I came to the conclusion that art is about evoking emotion, in whatever form the artist chooses to do so. Emotions are one of the unique characteristics that we as humans have and I firmly believe that we should celebrate and revel in having them. Ultimately, I believe this is what drives to us create art... and so it is for myself. Hopefully, at some level, these images stir something in your gut - be it awe, sensuality or a yearning. |
